Resident finds couple sleeping in her garage: Mayfield Village Police Blotter


Unwanted guest, Wilson Mills Road:

A resident reported at 10:54 a.m. July 18 a man and woman were sleeping in her garage. The South Euclid man, 34, told officers he was an acquaintance of the resident’s husband and had stayed in the garage the previous night. He was subsequently charged with criminal trespass and possession of drug abuse instruments. The Solon woman, 25, was released after it was determined the man had led her to believe they had permission to stay in the garage.

July 19, the resident told police she found heroin in the garage that she believed it belonged to the man. The substance was turned over to officers.

Fraud, Metro Park Drive:

A woman reported July 18 there was a $70 fraudulent charge on her credit card from an inmate phone service in Alabama. Her bank is investigating the incident.

Theft, Wilson Mills Road:

A bike was reported stolen from Mayfield High School July 18 during band camp. Its owner said the bike was locked, but both the bike and lock were missing.

July 20, a boy also reported his bike stolen from the school during band camp. There were no suspects identified in either incident.

Psychiatric situation, Village Trail:

A man was taken to the hospital July 20 for a psychiatric evaluation after a family incident at his parent’s home.

Juvenile complaint, Aintree Park Drive:

Officers responded to an apartment swimming pool around 9 p.m. July 20 for a report of some youths drinking and skinny-dipping. Everything checked OK. They were residents and did not know the pool had closed.

Disorderly conduct, North Commons Boulevard:

A Richmond Heights man, 36, was arrested for disorderly conduct; intoxication after he was seen walking and stumbling in the roadway shortly before midnight July 22.

Impaired driving, SOM Center Road:

A Cleveland Heights man, 22, was arrested for OVI after his vehicle was pulled over for speeding around 4 a.m. July 24. He was also charged with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle after officers found a gun under his front seat.

Theft from auto, Woodlane Road:

A resident reported at 6:40 a.m. July 23 he saw a man near his vehicle in the garage after his car alarm sounded. He said a bag, containing about $20-$30 worth of coins, was missing from the vehicle. Responding officers located the suspect in Mayfield Heights and arrested the man, 18, for burglary, theft and receiving stolen property.

Theft, SOM Center Road:

A South Euclid man, 35, and his 31-year-old wife were arrested at Heinen’s July 23 for the suspected theft of $105 worth of groceries. The couple was with their three children, who were released to a family member.

Fraud, Beta Drive:

An employee of a business said July 24 two men had purchased equipment and supplies on five occasions and had the business bill a third-party company. The employee said he spoke with the owner of the company and was told the men are not authorized to bill his company. He said the Mentor man, 52, and Willowick man, 31, are former employees. The incident is under investigation.

Sex offense, North Commons Boulevard:

An employee of a cleaning company said July 25 her boss grabbed her and kissed her without her permission while they were working at Progressive Insurance, where the company is contracted. She said she tried pushing the man off of her. The incident was referred to the prosecutor for review and potential charges against the 48-year-old Beachwood man.
