Role Summary

The domain architect will be part of a high-level insurance technology core team responsible for the strategic direction and execution of multiple, complex, concurrent roadmap projects. This role defines and maintains current state and target state architectures and interim architectures, identifies areas of immediate and long-term focus, identifies financial and technical implications, and develops multi-year roadmaps for the implementation of the target ecosystem. This role will work with business partners, deployment teams, and external strategic partners to successfully deliver technology solutions that meet business needs.

The position provides predefined standards and patterns, reference architectures based on NYL's business process models and industry models, and ensures that architectures are implemented to support business and IT strategies.

We are looking for a highly organized person with proven experience in solving complex technology problems, with great attention to detail and defining and implementing multi-team architectures. Individuals must be skilled in communication across work processes and project teams, through functional teams, with business leaders to senior executives.

primary responsibility

  • Maintains the consistency of the architectures and principles used in a business, application, or technology domain
  • Controls the application of architectures and principles that are used to ensure the consistency of technology to meet business needs
  • Designs, develops and communicates models, processes, tools, standards and methods used in various architectural domains
  • Evaluate new technologies and articulate the transition from present to future state, taking into account the future requirements of business and security policies and requirements, to create the optimal balance between standardization, customization, innovation, cost, and risk management
  • Provides guidance / input to Solution Architects and project teams to ensure that the provided technology solutions comply with the domain's technical guidelines
  • Supports the development of business cases that contain relevant effects on the technology
  • Work with the IT Business Relationship Manager and Strategic Planning teams and (when needed) work directly with the organization to understand the technology requirements and requirements and integrate them into the creation of roadmaps
  • Create an architecture roadmap for all technologies and applications in a particular business or technical area
  • Explains the key business benefits and impacts of technology decisions and outcomes
  • Conduct competitive analysis of specific products and technologies and provide input for product / technology selection for projects
  • Review and validate project goal metrics from a technology point of view, such as tooling, reusable frameworks, and feasibility to achieve the quality goal
  • Review, identify and prioritize technology risks to develop a risk mitigation plan at the business unit level
  • Recognize new innovation opportunities through market research to provide critical inputs for business plan development

Required skills and knowledge

  • Demonstrates significant knowledge in the IT architecture and its impact on the enterprise
  • Has technical depth and breadth of knowledge regarding multiple technologies and their relationships
  • Has extensive expertise in integrating the technical vision for IT and the integration of technologies, systems, organizations and scientific disciplines
  • Proven ability to build and run networks of business and technology leaders to gain knowledge about the practices of similar organizations and their strategies
  • Recognized as IT authority in the industry
  • In-depth and / or broad expertise in own discipline and broad knowledge in other related disciplines
